Welcome pet store, aquarium and pond owners and employees. Thank you for agreeing to learn and promote the ‘Don’t Let It Loose’ messaging to customers that purchase aquarium plants, pets and fish! This training process will take approximately 5 minutes and involves watching a 3-minute video and completing the ‘Don’t Let It Loose’ Pledge.

Common aquarium and pond species can become invasive when released into the wild. Releasing domestic pond water, fish, or other aquatic species, whether dead or alive, is illegal and can result in hefty fines or even jail time. Pour aquarium water over dry land and freeze aquarium plants before discarding them in the garbage. Unwanted pets may be returned to some pet stores, given away, or donated to schools and other community organizations. After a pet passes away, please bury it or dispose of it in the garbage, rather than flushing it, to prevent the spread of disease.

All staff must take the Don’t Let It Loose Pledge for a store to be a Certified Don’t Let It Loose Partner. As a refresher, staff are encouraged to take the training every 12 months.
